The Noise vs. The Need: What Type of Teacher Do You Need to Be?
by BuzzyTeachers
If you’ve spent even five minutes scrolling through teacher TikTok or sitting in a PD session, you’ve probably felt it — the noise. The noise tells you how to teach, how to decorate your room, how to talk to kids, what tools to use, what trends to follow, and even how to dress. It's loud, it's constant, and honestly? It can make you question if you're doing this whole teaching thing right.
But here’s the truth: you don’t need to be the loudest, the flashiest, or even the most organized teacher on campus. You need to be the teacher you were meant to be.
The Pressure to Perform
With so many voices telling us what kind of teacher we should be, it’s easy to fall into comparison traps. You might feel like you’re not techy enough, not fun enough, not strict enough, not something enough.
But the most impactful teachers aren’t trying to be everything to everyone — they’re just being authentically themselves. Your students don’t need a Pinterest-perfect personality. They need someone who shows up, connects, and teaches with heart.
So, Who Do You Need to Be?
Ask yourself two things:
What kind of teacher comes naturally to me?
Are you the storyteller? The structured guide? The calm listener? The energizer? That’s your zone. What do your students need right now?
Some groups need structure. Some crave connection. Some thrive with humor. When you meet them where they are with who you truly are, that’s where the magic happens.
A Quick Reality Check
Think back to a teacher you loved growing up. Chances are, they weren’t perfect. But they made you feel safe, seen, and inspired. That’s the type of teacher your students will never forget. And that’s who you already are — once you turn down the noise and trust yourself.
Final Buzz
The world of teaching is full of voices. But only yours matters in your classroom. Be bold. Be honest. Be who your students need — and who you need to be to keep loving this job.
Let’s BEE real. Let’s BEE intentional. Let’s BEE friends.
